Laura McFaden earned her B.A. in studio arts from Rollins College and her M.A.T. in Visual Arts teaching with highest honors from The Rhode Island School of Design. Before joining TKA, she was the Specialist Coordinator and Lead Art Educator for the Washington International School in Washington, DC for the past 9.5 years. While at WIS, Laura was blessed to be trained in Harvard Project Zero "Making Thinking Visible" program and is excited to share her techniques on increasing students' understanding with TKA. Prior teacher at WIS she taught art at Barnstable High School in Massachusetts, volunteered for other organizations as well as teaching student art lessons for First United Methodist Church in Winter Park, Florida. Laura has been recently selected on the Alumni Board of Directors for Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. She is a member of The National Art Education Association and was selected as a presenter for the Seattle NAEA Convention on Primary Art in the IBO For Dual Language Learners and Digital Art for Grade 3 Dual Language Learners as well as being a keynote speaker for the International Baccalaureate Organization's "Conference of the Americas" on Linking Harvard Project Zero Visible Thinking Routines and linking them within inquiry Art Education". A professional, award-winning artist who has exhibited her ceramics line at top galleries and fine contemporary craft shows around the United States and locally at Abacoa's 'Artigras' and "Juno Beach Arts Festival', Laura is an American Craft Council member and exhibitor. Her work has been featured in publications including American Style Magazine, Home Magazine (4 times) American Craft Magazine, New York Times, Boston Globe, Orlando Sentinel,Tampa Tribune, Chicago Tribune and the Philadelphia Inquirer as well as a featured article in Cape Cod Life magazine. Laura also was selected as a Niche Award finalist in 2005!

In the summer months, Laura and her family live in Orleans, MA on Cape Cod where she has a studio and gallery. Laura features her ceramic line as well as prints and paintings. When she's not painting the gorgeous landscapes and seascapes of the Cape she may be found paddle boarding on the local bay beaches with her sons William, Nick and step daughters Blair and Lauren. The whole family simply loves spending time together on the Cape in the summer months and holiday seasons.

Laura's son William who will be entering grade 8 at TKA this coming school year. William is excited about the Engineering classes, Chinese, baseball, swimming, band and art! William and her husband Frank look forward to meeting the whole TKA community! She is excited to bring her passion for teaching art to the TKA upper school!
